Tintern Abbey

This past weekend we took a trip to Tintern Abbey. Tintern Abbey was founded in 1138 AD by the Cistercian Monks. Over the following centuries the Abbey grew through various construction projects into a towering architecture masterpiece.

At the beginning of the 16th century the government began to suppress the church estates of Wales and turned over their land to wealthy landlords. The Abbey fell into disrepair as opportunists milked the iron out of the roof and removed any other elements of value.

You can see in the above picture how small I was compared to the building. I needed to cruise around the building and check out every corner. Dad was following me around the whole castle to make sure I didn't fall into any of the open floors. Like I would fall!
